5 Minutes of Hope
Education & medical access in hard places

This Month’s Story

From student to business owner

Myken’s story is one of steady growth, opportunity, and perseverance.

As a young man in Haiti, Myken lived in Give Hope’s transition home and attended our local primary and secondary schools. Through education, stability, and support, he began to imagine a future that once felt out of reach.

After graduating, Myken was awarded a Shop Hope scholarship, allowing him to attend a technical university and train as a seamster. He worked hard, completed his studies, and graduated with the skills needed to stand on his own.

But the story didn’t stop there.

With a vision to launch his own sewing business, Myken applied for a small business loan through Give Hope. He was approved, opened his shop, and began creating clothing to support himself and build a future in his community.

Since then, Myken has faithfully repaid his loan every single month, on time — a powerful testament to his commitment and integrity. Today, he is fully independent and earning a living through his work.

His impact has come full circle. Give Hope now partners with Myken to create school uniforms for students at Darivarger and Pain de Vie, supporting local craftsmanship while meeting the needs of our students.

This is what hope looks like when education leads to opportunity — and opportunity leads to sustainability.

Hope in Action This Month

In just days, a small Give Hope team will travel to Ghana to begin building a school library at Sowers Academy — a space that will soon be shared with the computer lab previously built by Give Hope.

This March, two teams will serve side by side:

  • Construction Team — building library shelving and tables

  • Education Team — working with students and teachers to organize, stamp, categorize, and shelve thousands of books

Students, teachers, and Give Hope volunteers will partner together to bring the library to life — creating a space designed for learning, imagination, and growth.

In addition, the education team will lead literacy-focused and faith-based art lessons for every grade level, encouraging a love of reading while nurturing creativity and faith.

You can be part of this mission right now:

  • Pray for safe travel, strength, and meaningful connections

  • Help equip the team by purchasing much-needed supplies from our Amazon Wishlist

  • Follow along on social media for daily updates as the work unfolds

This is hope in motion — and it’s happening together.

A Moment of Hope

Education doesn’t end at graduation — it grows into opportunity.

Moments like this remind us why we invest in students, skills, and spaces for learning. From young people discovering a love for reading to graduates building livelihoods of their own, hope takes root when access meets possibility.

This is the heart behind every library built, every lesson taught, and every opportunity created.

Be Part of the Story

The time is now to say yes.

Registration is officially open for the July 2026 Ghana Impact Team, and spots are expected to fill quickly — whether you’re a returning team member or considering your very first trip.

This year’s team will serve in the Kwahu region of Ghana, combining both medical and education efforts in communities where Give Hope has been serving for years.

Medical Team
Our medical team partners directly with local clinics, focusing on:

  • Training clinicians with skills that strengthen long-term healthcare

  • Bringing together providers from remote areas so outlying clinics can grow in capacity

  • Improving quality of care, access to healthcare, and significantly reducing infant mortality rates

Because of these partnerships, Give Hope has been recognized locally for its impact — and this year, our medical team is expected to deliver nearly $1 million in donated medical equipment, including life-saving ultrasound machines.

Ultrasound techs are especially needed on this trip.

Education Team
Our education team will:

  • Build a new school library and STEM lab

  • Continue replenishing previously built libraries

  • Host a teacher conference with more than 50 educators from the region

  • Serve alongside students in classrooms

We’ve been told families are moving to the Pepease area specifically because of the healthcare and education access made possible through Give Hope’s work — and this trip is part of continuing that legacy.

If you’ve ever wondered if this is your year, this is your invitation.
