5 Minutes of Hope — April 2026

5 Minutes of Hope
Education & medical access in hard places

This Month’s Story

A space that was empty is now full of possibility

When our team arrived at Sowers Academy, the library was just an empty room with blank walls and a vision for what it could become.

By the end of the week, it was something completely different.

Shelves had been built across the entire wall, tables were constructed, and more than 2,000 books were unpacked, sorted by reading level, stamped, and carefully placed on the shelves. Teachers spent hours going through the books, sharing how much they’ve needed resources like this to better teach their subjects.  For the first time, they now have books to bring real examples into their classrooms.

The entire time our team worked, the students watched over us. They asked questions and were eager to help however they could. Once the books started going on the shelves, they couldn’t keep their hands off of them.

The impact went beyond the library.

The kitchen staff, who prepare meals for more than 300 students every day, received new student bowls, serving trays, and cooking utensils.  They were incredibly grateful and shared their dreams about one day having a full cafeteria space.

In the classrooms, students experienced incredible as well. Art lessons were taught in every grade level using books like The Hungry Caterpillar and Where the Wild Things Are. You could see their creativity come out in ways that were new to them.

Midweek, our team joined the students for worship, led by Pastor Emmanuel, and had the chance to simply be part of their rhythm of life.

There was laughter, curiosity, and a sense of pride throughout the entire week. Students, teachers, and our team worked side by side to make it happen.

Now, Sowers Academy has something it didn’t have before. A place where students can read, learn, and grow.

Hope in Action This Month

Right now, we are packing and preparing a container that will ship to Ghana ahead of our July team.

Inside the container will be the resources needed to continue building both education and medical programs. That includes major medical equipment like EKG machines and carts, exam tables, ultrasound machines, a vascular ultrasound machine, IV poles, a phlebotomy chair, crash carts, and more. There are also the everyday tools clinics rely on, like thermometers, stethoscopes, and vein finders, along with hospital and clinic furniture.

At the same time, we are packing thousands of books to replenish libraries that have already been built and to support the new library that will be completed this summer. We are also gathering STEM materials for a new lab that will give students hands-on opportunities to learn in new ways.

Everything is packed and shipped in April so it can make it into the container and move through customs in time for the team to arrive in July.

Anything we are able to secure now through the Amazon Wishlist goes directly into that container. It means we can send more, prepare better, and not be limited by what fits in luggage.

This is the part most people never see, but it is what makes everything else possible.

This is how schools get built.
This is how classrooms get equipped.
This is how healthcare improves.

Take action this month and be a part of the July Impact team by purchasing supplies from our Amazon Wishlist.

A Moment of Hope

Pictured here a young man at Sowers Academy.  The pride in his eyes as he held up his artwork said everything. A simple moment, but a reminder of what happens when students are given the chance to create, explore, and express themselves in new ways.

Be Part of the Story

There are a lot of ways to be part of this work, and one of them is coming up soon.

One of our board members, along with Total Packaging Company, is hosting their annual Pro-Am golf tournament — an event that supports both local veterans and Give Hope.

This is the same team that has been helping us pick up, store, and prepare everything that is being shipped to Ghana. Their support behind the scenes has made a huge difference, and this event is one of the ways they continue to invest in the work.

We would love to have some Give Hopers out there.

Whether you want to enter a team, sponsor, or just learn more, it is a fun and meaningful way to be part of what Give Hope is doing.

Shop Hope will also be there, and it will be a great day to connect, support, and be involved.

Learn more about the Pro-Am and how to participate. Email Guenn@totalpkgco.com.

With Gratitude

Thank you for being part of Give Hope Global.

What happened at Sowers was not small. And it only happened because people chose to be involved.

We are grateful for you.
